The Mission

The mission of the Foundation for Central Schools is to support student development by encouraging community investment and involvement in our four pillars of academics, athletics, agriculture and the arts.

Our major donors include:

Janessa Ramirez Scholarship Awards Dinner

1st Annual  Janessa Ramirez Scholarship Awards Dinner

The 1st Annual Janessa Ramirez Scholarship Awards Dinner was a memorable and touching event, recognizing 6 deserving seniors who received $15,000 in scholarships in Janessa's memory.

The event would not be possible without the following event sponsors: Yribarren Family Vineyards, Engelmann Cellars, Moravia Wines, LoMac Winery, and Tioga Sequoia Brewing Company. Special thanks to Scholarship Sponsors: the Odabashian Family and SIM-PRK and our Teddy Bear Sponsors: Mid Valley Disposal and Councilmember Esmeralda Soria and Oliver Baines. We're very grateful for the many donations for our silent and live dessert auction.

Congrats to the 2017 Central High senior scholarship recipients: Harleen Gill, Ariana Hernandez, Mandeep Kaur, Ivan Kim, Henry Nguyen, and Madeleine Robinson!

Janessa Ramirez Scholarship

In 2015, Janessa Ramirez was standing in front of a laundromat with her mother when she was killed in the crossfire of a gang dispute. She was struck by a stray round fired from several hundred yards away and died on January 18, 2015.  She was a 4th grader from Steinbeck Elementary in Central Unified School District.

To honor and remember Janessa, the Foundation for Central Schools adopted the Janessa Ramirez Scholarship Program and is committed to awarding six $2500 scholarships annually.  During the 2015 State of the City address, Mayor Ashley Swearengin presented Stacey Ramirez with a Key to the City and announced Central’s new scholarship program in her daughter’s name.

If you would like to partner with the Foundation on this scholarship, please e-mail the Foundation President, Joe Doyland:  joed@myeecu.org
