I am honored and excited to serve as your Superintendent. The Central Community, employees, parents and students have provided a very warm welcome. I am equally enthusiastic about the opportunities that I see before us. It is true that we will face difficult decisions through this next challenging budget year, but also true that we will work transparently and collaboratively to ensure that no matter what issues arise, our Board of Trustees, District Office and school site support staff, and educators will link arms and press forward to ensure that our students realize the high quality instruction, necessary resources and materials, and success that they deserve. My focus, supported by our exceptional administrative team, will be to continue to move our district forward and upward in terms of student choices, academic rigor, and preparation for career and college readiness.

It is also a privilege to watch the dreams of Measure B come to fruition. The new middle school is rising from the ground at Ashlan and Bryan avenues, and 13 other major projects are under way as well across the district. We are committed to providing the finest facilities and learning environments so that our students and community members can enjoy the best possible surroundings when entering our facilities. Our investment in the value of our community, thanks to the taxpayers of Central Unified, and effort to infuse as much of our capital resources in local companies, is an intentional effort to create and retain jobs and to reenergize our economy through our own collective local efforts.

In the next few months administration will be embarking on focused efforts to refine and articulate our goals and desired outcomes for the district-wide Instructional Action Plan. We will be looking at all of our efforts and narrowing to those that have achieved the greatest results for our students and staff. Now more than ever it is critically important that we concentrate our resources where we can assure that every dollar spent results in a direct positive impact on a student.

Finally, we are committed to improving staff and administration knowledge. We are sustaining our efforts to provide learning opportunities for employees at all levels to make certain that our students and community get the most current technology and teaching strategies so that they are ready to compete in the job market and ready to think and problem solve their way through life.
