On June 10, 2025, the Board of Education for the Central Unified School District (CUSD) officially appointed Dr. Mark Marshall as their new Superintendent. In this vital role, he will oversee all operations within CUSD, which caters to more than 16,000 students, employs 1,760 staff members, and manages a substantial budget of $300 Million Dollars.
Before his tenure at CUSD, Dr. Marshall dedicated eight years to serving as the Superintendent of the Los Banos Unified School District (LBUSD), where he oversaw 11,000 students, 1,200 employees, and a budget of $200 million. His strong leadership was key in passing Measure X, a local bond measure aimed at enhancing LBUSD’s school facilities, including funding for new school constructions. During his time at LBUSD, he successfully identified and completed numerous facility projects, such as the construction of Grasslands Elementary, which was recently recognized as a California Distinguished School. Additionally, he oversaw the addition of a Science Wing at Pacheco High School and the ongoing complete renovation of Loftin Stadium.
Dr. Marshall was previously the Superintendent for the Eastside Union School District (EUSD) located in Lancaster, California. He initially joined EUSD in May 2010 as the Director of Student Services, Special Education, and Alternative Education, and served more than five years in the superintendent role.
Now residing in West Fresno, Dr. Marshall was born and raised in Houma, Louisiana, and boasts 39 years of experience in education. His diverse roles have included Special Education Teacher, Special Education Supervisor, Assistant Principal, Middle School Principal, and High School Principal.
He earned both his BA and M.Ed. Degrees in Special Education from Nicholls State University. His administrative certification and Ed.S. degree were obtained from the University of West Georgia, and he received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Auburn University. Additionally, he has completed post-doctoral studies at Western Washington University, the University of California Los Angeles-Extension, and Seattle Pacific University. Recently, he finished the esteemed National Superintendent Certification Program® from the American Association of School Administrators and successfully completed Stanford University’s EdLeaders Professional Certificate program.
