Dr. Eimear O’Brien - Interim Superintendent

Dr. Eimear O’Brien brings 40 years of educational experience and a proven track record of student success to her role as Interim Superintendent of Central Unified School District. A lifelong educator, Dr. O’Brien has devoted her career to creating meaningful learning opportunities for every student—and to building strong, supportive school communities and systems where all children are seen, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, Dr. O’Brien began her career as a classroom teacher before relocating to the Central Valley in 1993. She joined Clovis Unified School District in 1996, where she served with distinction for more than 25 years in a variety of leadership roles: classroom teacher, guidance instructional specialist, principal, deputy principal, and eventually as Assistant Superintendent. In 2017, she was appointed Superintendent of Clovis Unified, where she led with a clear vision, a collaborative spirit, and a student-first mindset until her retirement in 2023. In March 2025, she was appointed Interim Superintendent of Central Unified School District.
Throughout her career, Dr. O’Brien has held fast to a core belief: that every student—regardless of background, ability, or circumstance—deserves access to the very best opportunities. She is equally passionate about the belief that every adult on a school campus plays a vital role in shaping the experience of a child. Whether in the classroom, behind the wheel of a school bus, answering phones in the front office, or sweeping the hallways after a long day—every staff member is an educator, because each one leaves a lasting impression on the lives they touch.
In her role with Central Unified, Dr. O’Brien is focused on ensuring a strong, stable finish to the school year—supporting students and staff, while keeping the district moving forward for a strong finish to the school year. She is proud to serve a district where so many educators and families have built a legacy of care and commitment that spans generations.
When she’s not working, Dr. O’Brien enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling, and enjoying the arts. But her greatest joy has always come from being part of a school community—where learning, growth, and the potential to change a life can happen every single day.
