VAPA (Visual & Performing Arts)

Central Unified School District recognizes the important role visual and performing arts play in providing our students a well-rounded education. The arts - dance, music,theater, and visual arts - are a critical part of every child's education. Research has shown that arts education not only enhances student achievement, but also improves emotional intelligence necessary in life: self-awareness, empathy, self-regulation, and internal motivation. It is no surprise that education in the visual and performing arts is recognized as a key component in developing 21st century job skills, and Central promotes this at every grade level!
Central High School Musical "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"
February 28, 2018   7:00 p.m.
Spelling Bee
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

Flamenco Guitar Teacher, Brian Garcia, has been invited to perform with internationally known guitarist Jose Antonio Rodriguez at the Guitar Summit on April 13th at 7:30 pm in the Old Administration Building at FCC.

Several middle and high school students were selected (by audition) to perform at the Fresno-Madera Music Educators Association Honor Choir on February 10th at Shagoian Concert Hall. Congratulations go out to the following students: El Capitan MS - Alyssa Vang, Alyssa Pasillas, Mary Hadrijul, Juliana Arce Carreno, and Jordan Espinosa;

Central High - Angie Xiong, Chariti Moua, Lauren Heard, Leonardo Tapia Barragan, and Brandon Lopez.

Secondary percussion ensembles continue to do well at the Winter Guard Competitions. El Capitan and Glacier Point received second place in their respective divisions, and Central High took third place in the high school ensemble division on Friday, February 9th.
