Need a substitute permit?  

  1. Contact: Fresno County Superintendent of Schools (FCSS)
  2. Please call first FCSS at the following phone no: (559) 265-3005

  3. After obtaining permit, see application process below.

Application Process

Complete the Central Unified School District Certificated online application via EdJoin during the application period listed below:

Substitute Training Date

July 1st through  July 18th

July 25, 2019

August 1st – August 21st

September 4, 2019

September 2  - September 25th

October 9, 2019

October 1st – October 31st

November 20, 2019

December 2nd – January 13th

January 22, 2020

January 27th February 12th

February 19, 2020

February 24th - March 11th

March 18, 2020

March 23rd – April 3rd

April 22, 2020



Attach the following:

  • Resume
  • Credential or Substitute Permit (must show expiration date)
  • Copy of CBEST
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation dated within 18 months of application
  • Attend a mandatory training. Substitute training is by invitation only; qualified applicants will be invited to attend the next available training via email.


Complete Training Successfully:

  • Complete Certificated Substitute On-Boarding Packet (will be sent via email after successful training).
  • Fingerprint with Central Unified after completion of On-Boarding Packet ($34 Cashier Check or Money Order)
