How To Become A Central Unified Substitute Teacher

Please refer to the resources available on the FCSS webpage. Select the applicable links in the sections titled, “Substitute Teaching” and “Additional Resources”.  These links provide you with a step-by-step process to obtain a substitute teaching permit.
After obtaining permit, refer to the following application process. 

 

Application Process

Complete the Central Unified School District Certificated Online Application via EdJoin during the application period listed below:

September 1st  – September 21st

September 27, 2023

October 2nd – October 19th

October 25, 2023

October 30th – November 16th

November 28, 2023

December 4th – January 18th

January 29th – February 22nd

February 28, 2024

February 26th – March 14th

March 20, 2024

 

Attach the following items to your application:          

  • Resume
  • Credential or Substitute Permit (must show expiration date)
  • Basic Skills Requirement (Official CBEST PDF or equivalent)                            
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation dated within 18 months of application

 

Training:

Applicants must attend a mandatory training.  Substitute training is by invitation only; qualified applicants will be invited to attend the next available training via email.


Complete Training Successfully:

  • Complete Certificated Substitute On-Boarding Packet (will be sent to qualified applicants via email after successful completion of the mandatory training).
  • Obtain fingerprint with Central Unified after completion of On-Boarding Packet ($34, Cashier Check or Money Order)
 
 

Live Scan Fingerprint Clearance 

In accordance with California law, all applicants must obtain fingerprint clearance prior to starting a position. Life Scan fingerprints are taken electronically by a certified fingerprint roller as part of our onboarding process. Fingerprints cannot be transferred from another agency. Applicants will incur fingerprint processing fees, which are determined by the CA Department of Justice.

All offers of employment are contingent upon fingerprint clearance, maintenance of all credentials and/or certificates necessary to perform the duties of the position, and/or other clearance requirements. Certain criminal charges may also impact any job offer.
